Police in Tula, Kawempe Division, yesterday night intercepted a suspected stolen vehicle, stuffed with a heifer.

The heifer is suspected to have been stolen from the neighbouring areas.

The suspects, on seeing the unexpected police checkpoint abandoned their car and escaped.

Vehicle registration number UAG 788K was intercepted at about 2.00am and according to the OC Tula Police Post IP. Dan Ampadde, the heifer was stuffed in the rear seats.

A KCCA veterinary officer has since been called in to examine and ascertain the cow’s condition in order to ensure its disease free.

“We are in touch with all neighbouring areas to ensure that the cow is given to their rightful owner,” the OC said.

Currently, KMP is at the helm of preventing animal theft especially in areas of Mattuga, Nagalama, Kasangati, Kalagi and Kakiri.

The community has been able to cooperate fruitfully with the police through community policing, whereby residents in different corners of Kampala provide timely information that helps in the arrest of such suspects.

Police encourages that the practice should continue in order to cement the peace and prosperity currently experienced in Kampala.

One of the initiatives that Police uses to prevent animal theft and other related crimes include snap checks, collaboration with neighbouring police stations and other relevant offices as well as employing area lookout teams to identify hardcore criminals and stolen items.
