Parliament has awarded Jowat Enterprises Uganda, the contract to set up the Parliament radio.

The Parliament radio will be located at Parliament Building.

The radio project, amounting to Shs350 million is being sponsored by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Uganda and will initially cover costs of civil and electrical works.

The set-up is expected to run for 45 days with effect from 18th January 2018.

Dison B. Okumu, the Director Corporate Planning and Strategy at Parliament said the institution requested UNDP to procure a contractor to supply and install sound equipment and acoustics.

“It has taken us five years to get to this stage. We began with a social political study, followed by a technical feasibility study that ended with designing the studio; all which ended in November last year,” said Okumu.

Okumu added that the contractor would receive full payment on 100% completion of project, adding that a second contractor will be procured to install radio equipment in the furnished studio.

“Parliament intends to roll out the radio station to 22 districts in Uganda,” said Okumu.

Asked about the television studio, Mr. Okumu noted that its set up has been reserved for a second phase that will be executed after the new Parliamentary Chambers have been completed.

Annet Mpabulungi Wakabi, the Head of Governance Unit at UNDP Uganda handed over the contract to the Mr. Okumu on Friday 19th January, 2018, saying she was optimistic the project would be a success.

John Walker Musanyusa, the Managing Director Jowat Enterprises, promised to complete the set-up within the timelines.
