Doctors To Resume Strike

1 Mins read

The President of the Uganda Medical Association Dr. Ekwaro Obuku had said that if the minimum demands agreed with government have not been implemented by December 16, 2017, the industrial action will resume.

“Two issues are still pending and they are the issue of supplies in hospitals and the second one is the issue of senior house officers. These are issues that we know the government can handle and we believe government has really prioritised these issues but they should find a way of eliminating administrative bottlenecks,” said Obuku.

Obuku opines that by eliminating administrative bottlenecks the flow of services will be smoother.

“By eliminating administrative bottlenecks, it will ensure money will get into the accounts of senior house officers as well as supplies. As you recall we said that failure to meet these minimum demands would lead to automatic industrial action starting from 16, December 2017.”

This comes after the Public Service Minister Muruli Mukasa’s announcement that government would increase the salaries of civil servants starting the next financial year.
