Deputy Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah has said that the raid on parliament by SFC commandos on September 27, 2017 was unnecessary and highly regrettable.
“This is first comment am making on this since it happened I was not here but I saw the bits of what happened,” Oulanyah said before adding that; “It was first of all unnecessary and secondly it is highly regrettable.”
This comes after Opposition MPs walked out of Parliament demanding assurances on their personal security.
The Opposition chief whip Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda asked the deputy speaker Jacob Oulanyah for an explanation, also raising concern about their security.
Other MPs rose on a point of procedure demanding that the contentious matter is dealt with before business could proceed.
Buvuma County MP Egunyu Nantume revealed that even some police officers were thumped and injured by the Commandos.
This website understands that the Commandos were deployed to forcefully evict MPs who were against the constitutional amendment of article 102(b) that if changed would see a president rule for life.
