Article 102 (b) Makes No Sense in the Constitution, Remove It — Jim Muhwezi

Former ICT Minister Rtd Maj Gen. Jim Muhwezi has told Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee that Article 102(b) of the Constitution does not make any sense and it should be removed.

He also said that the young leaders are the ones that always cause political and economic crisis in the country.

“Going by our history, the leaders that have brought political turbulence have been much younger than 75 years,” explained Jim before adding that; “In 1971 when Idi Amin staged a military coup and massacred people and destroyed the economy he was just 46 years.”

Jim further said that even Obote at 41yrs, he attacked abrogated the Constitution and attacked the Kabaka of Buganda.

Jim was leading the veterans from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party. They were expressing their view on changing the constitution.

Igara West MP Raphael Magyezi’s bill seeks to among others amend Article 102(b) of the Constitution which puts 35 and 75 as lower and upper caps respectively on the age of the Presidency.
