The Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, has expressed concern over the increasing number of COVID-19 Community cases within the capital City.

Lukwago made the remarks during his introductory remarks while officiating at the induction where the Authority Councilors were orientated pursuant to their roles, functions, responsibilities and the city governance structure in appreciation of the new KCCA legal regime.

Lukwago said given the upsurge of COVID-19 cases in the city, KCCA Cabinet is considering mass community testing in Kampala.

He however encouraged the public to carry out voluntary testing of the pandemic.

“Such an exercise can only be pulled off by empowering the Village Health Teams. It is also important to equip the KCCA Health Centers to manage the rising number of community cases but there are budgetary constraints in pursuing this,”Lukwago said.

He further advised the Councilors to always observer decorum in all their engagements and inspired them to think of the Alderman Title being bestowed upon them after serving diligently.

The lead facilitator for this induction was  Erias Mutumba, a Legal Senior Research Officer with the Ministry of Local Governance who emphasized the need of respecting the law to the letter but also working together as a team beyond political parties after being elected the Council.
